The Philadelphia Inquirer- How To Spiral Down Quicker

Inquirer

Inquirer ME Mike Leary just sent a memo saying they are going to hold all but breaking news for the paper and even restrict bloggers from using their blogs to work on stories in progress.Let me make this very clear to Inquirer ownership and management:You are killing the paper. You might as well just burn the place down. You’re setting a match to it. This is insane. Even the slowest, most curmudgeonly, most backward in your dying, suffering industry would not be this stupid anymore. They know that the internet is the present and the future and the paper is the past. Protecting the past is no strategy for the future. It is suicide. It is murder. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Wow, how did I miss this post? I need to fine tune my Goggle Alerts. I got this info from www.sarahlacy.com via email and was floored! Don't blog about the news until it goes to print first? Soo even when every major news media company podcasts and blogs breaking news, the Inquirer wants to hold it's teddy bear tight? Even with the New York Times displaying on their banner "Latest Update 6:52 pm EDT" (It's currenlty 7:06pm EDT) you want to suck your thumb instead and refuse to embrace the internet? I still shake my head when I see the guy in the middle of the street trying to sale newspapers. As everyone else gets "Green" and tighten their belt, the first thing they'll cut will be tree killing newspapers. Talk about dissolving a job position...

Is The Friend Feed Party Over Yet?

friendupdate, originally uploaded by Solacetech.

Not at all! The Stats have changed also. With the resurgence of www.twitter.com ,tweet love is still the majority of traffic. The friend feed bookmarklet has picked up speed too. I've been trying to use it like twitter with some success.

Of course the biggest change has been the use of "rooms" and now the ability to add feeds to the rooms. I've read many discussions on this and the consensus seems to be a little automation with a lot of conversation.

Back to the rooms. Members have found a wide range of uses for it from Social Media arguments to baby announcements. My secret favorite room is the Problogger room. I won't go into detail because rarely does a paid blogger discuss their how-to's....

So is the www.friendfeed.com party over? Not even close. These guys created a platform with no presets or bondaries. You can do what ever you want to do here. It reminds me of a machine originally made to just add. Remember that one?

Organic VS. Synthetic Blog Success

Feedalizr freezes

I really can't bring myself to pay for clicks. I listen to certain podcasts everyday and even though it's a good way to "test", I just can't do it. What is frustrating is the fact that Google organically sends me more traffic than all of the blog submittal sites put together! Should I be happy about this? I guess...

In other news, I've been trying to tread water in the elite blogger ocean called Friend Feed. Since it's still new only the techies are really using it. Also just as hard is testing the desktop apps that blows through the AIR(get it?). Lately I've been comparing Alert Thingy with /Feedalizr... Well um Alert thingy works and Feedalizr freezes(see pic)...The weird thing is that while frozen, pop up alerts come up but I can't open them. Oh well there will be more apps and more sleepless nights. If you had more success with Feedalizr, drop a comment and subscribe to my blog. :-)

The TechCrunch Explosion

Erick Schonfeld from TechCrunch gets philosophical. Here's my two cents:

"Wow! Thanx for pulling back the curtains a little bit. I'm not sure if Arrington suggested this post, but it seems to me switching gears with this "letter" endeared listeners who might have thought about unsubscribing b/c of the increased posts... Keep growing, maybe being the next C|net won't be that bad..."
