Wireless Philadelphia Joins Google's Petition For White Space Use

This is the email I received this morning:

"Dear Friend of Wireless Philadelphia:

We wanted to call everyone's attention to an important petition, sponsored by Google, that supports expanded internet access for everyone. Specifically, the petition asks the Federal Communications Commission to "open up…white spaces for wireless broadband and other emerging technologies". White spaces are unused radio airwaves that have enormous untapped potential to support new wireless technologies.

Wireless Philadelphia is dedicated to closing the digital divide and believes the movement to open white spaces can greatly assist this effort nationally. Continued technological innovation in this area will help make critical communications tools more open and available for everyone.

Please take a moment to register your support for this important movement and the myriad of exciting advances it supports.

Click here to view the petition."

RushmoreDrive-It's More About Culture

Is Google too white? No, we're not talking about the white home page that's so bright it motivates some people to change its appearance to save energy. We're wondering if it is too white, as in Caucasian, because so many white people use Google that it returns results that alienate the rest of the population.

Wow, that was harsh...Blackweb 2.0 has provided detailed coverage about this search engine, so I won't. I just want to address and perhaps spin the above post properly. As I've said before, the black culture seems to be popular when it comes to entertainment and such...Google paints a broad enough search stroke to allow other specialty search engines to prosper also. I use this word because not everyone loves needle point but some do(like my wife). Not everyone enjoy Chris Botti but my good friend does... Were the two things I mentioned typically Black? Not really but my wife and friends are...

Switching From Feedburner to Feedburner.Google

----------->Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

I just might be late to this party. Checking Techmeme this evening shows how everyone is talking about Google/Feedburner adding ads to feeds now. This a good move since people often visit your site via rss. This also meant they used to get your content without the adds. Well Ha on them! Now we can annoy them with ads built in our feeds!

That's not the whole story though. Now I have to change my "subscribe" link to http://feedproxy.google.com/feedburner/myphillynetwork to get the feeds with ads.It looks like Google copied Feedburner over to a subdomain of sorts. Hmm, as I read the Adsense info more, it went on to say how this transistion isn't automatic and just "email" them your info to get the ad injection...Since I can't wait, I just reburnt my feed...

Can we see Techcrunch jumping over right now? No, I think losing their subscription numbers and starting over would kill them. Don't worry guys, I'll be your Guiena Pig....
Please "resubscribe" to my site by clicking the Subscribe Link... Thanx

Gmail = Spam?

My wife committed the most Cardinal of Web 2.0 sins this week. She created another Gmail account because her original one had too much "spam"...What? Is that even possible? It got me to thinking how each person approaches email fatigue and spam. Since I don't have a target class to electroshock and test, I'll use my wife and myself:

I rarely read all of my mail(sorry). I usually sit on www.gmail.com all day and skim the subject lines. I have A LOT of news alerts and job/resume emails so I only click on what interest me. You can say my first and foremost "lifestream" is Gmail. After about 20 to 40 unread emails pile up I just highlight the "unread" and mark as read, no worries. Yes I accumalate a huge amount of email like that but it's Gmail right? I've barely scratched my 7 gig limit. I have a lot of spam also, but I let google handle the spam side with a clean sweep once a month I believe. I'm not really sure since they filter it out so well!
