Deregulation’s history of empty promises

"Comcast and Verizon lobbied side by side in 2004 to pass legislation in Pennsylvania, so alarmed were they by the city of Philadelphia’s community wireless plans. Now any other city in that state will find it impossible to do the same. In three small neighboring cities in Illinois—St. Charles, Batavia and Geneva—SBC and Comcast fought plans by groups such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Jaycees to build a community fiber-optic network. The citizens’ group backing the “Fiber for Our Future” referendum went down to political defeat twice, in 2003 and 2004, after a well-funded advertising and misleading public relations campaign."

Well, well, well. I guess we won't see the "Free wireless" setup in Philadelphia any time soon. Oh sure it will happen thanks to Wireless Phladelphia. Sadly though, an uphill battle to benefit us means more profit for the two mentioned above.Thanx for nothing...

This is really a good thing...

Phila.'s population shrinking, though region's is growing | Philadelphia Inquirer | 07/10/2008

"Continuing a long-running downward trend, Philadelphia lost more residents between 2000 and 2007 than any U.S. city except hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, newly released estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show."

I don't get this one. The "City" of Philadelphia is shrinking. As people get more successful in life, they move to the suburbs. I did(when I was single), my friends did and most of my neighbors from West Philly did it. Those in the "Urban" parts of North Philly actually bettered their lives and moved to the less cramped spaces of Southwest Philadelphia. The Older ones from South and Southwest sold their houses and either move west of Philadelphia or entered assisted living centers. It feels like a good thing! Everyone is moving up! The Cycle is good for once. Philadelphia needs to refresh the city with young fresh college kids willing to stay, have a family and pursue careers locally. If they make the City more appealing, the population will remain constant or increase.

Geno's Famous Cheesesteak in Philly

No Offense really. I've been a card carrying Philly folk since 1975. Yet I've never had a cheesesteak from Geno's. I really can't do the cheese-wiz thing. Too salty. I'm from West Philly so Papps off 52nd and Girard ave was better. One day I was hungry and desperate so I got one from a chinese store on 60th and Arch st. Nasty!!!! They fried it in day old chicken grease.

Networking

(Still Testing Scribefire...) If You look at the right hand side of the pic, you'll notice a widget showcasing http://anzman.blogspot.com/ SEO and Tech Daily by Charlie Anzman. Why would I do that? Well for one he's also from Pennsylvania and 2), He has good articles explaining things in more detail than I. How does this benefit you? You get to click to someone in the same vein as my site but with more experience...
I don't think I benefit at all in this equation except for maybe brownie points (lol). Www.myphillynetwork.com is really about networking and I feel good knowing that's what I'm trying to do. If you have a local website, business or fancy you want to share, feel free to subscribe, register, advertise, I really don't care as long as coming here helps YOU in someway...

Sunday evening my wife and in-laws went to a City sponsored Block Party in West Oak Lane( WWW.OARCPHILLY.ORG ). She bought home tons of pics and video. I just happen upon this picture here. The keyboardist is my cousin-law(?) and I'm kicking myself for missing his set. If I didn't have this sinus problem,I would've been there for him. Maybe even performed with Him! Not! I'm what you call a studio musician/songwriter. We'll discuss that later, anyway, It's such a great thing when we get to see the best of Philly in a drama free....Oh, wait the Mighty B is on! The kids and I love the theme song!
