Zimbio- Flying Under The RADAR
August 4, 2008 - 8:27pm — Solacetech
I'm not sure where I first saw this site. It was either from Bloggernoob or ProBlogger. At any rate, in my eternal quest to walk the line between purist blogger and sellout, I signed up for Zimbio. It supposedly promotes your blog as you install their widget. The widget never worked for me so I un-installed it without deleting. Today though as I was going through my widgets not installed, I noticed it just sitting there. I pulled up the URL and SHAZAAMM! They changed the site!
It's very Mainstream-ish now. It kinda looks like a cross between Yahoo Buzz and Social Median. Since I'm a fan of Social Median, that's cool! Since Yahoo Buzz is a members club only, Zimbio is really cuil/cool!!!! They allow you to directly ping and add your blog now so I can still dump the widget. After a quick google scan, the only bad thing I read was about a guy who's mad because they erased his affiliate posts. So check it out, submit your blog, read the articles :)
The Friend Feed Parade
April 12, 2008 - 2:19pm — Solacetech Twitter owes Co-founders Bret Taylor, Jim Norris, Paul Buchheit and Sanjeev Singh a check. They have single handedly saved twitter via Friend Feed. Just a couple of months ago after Pownce kicked it into high gear, The influential techies were getting tired of twitter. Facebook integrated it's feed stream and a hundred different websites did the same. So what's so "killer" about FriendFeed? It's power and simplicity IMO. You can comment, post and keep up to date on all of your feeds, twits and friends/contacts. It's a social network made up of layers. You can have CEO's, software engineers, famous Silicon Valley bloggers and just your friends all at the same time but not mixed in together, you can't see my buddy twit about the Sixers unless you know him/her too. The playing field is so level, a lowly IS Field Engineer like me can get the tech news almost (almost) before www.techcrunch.com does, if not at the same time.
So, where do we go from here? Take a look at www.toluu.com and www.socialmedian.com. There's others like www.alltop.com but toluu and social median has a better feel to it. As an user, getting an email of the latest stories in the categorizes I choose is nice. As a blogger, I'm literally salivating at the thought of one of these Betas going public along with my submitted blog...It's a win-win situation and I'm glad to be here to see the Friend Feed Parade...
