Philly Spotlight On: Rob Diana
July 24, 2008 - 12:08am — SolacetechThis is new series I'm starting called Philly Spotlight. I have more in line but I wanted to start off with a bang first!
Here it is Jason Calacanis Style!:

> Who you are:
Rob Diana, Regular Geek and developer of YackTrack.com
> What's your day job (it can be vague if you want to be safe)
Software Engineer at an ecommerce company.
> How long have you been in Philly:
I have lived in the area my whole life (36 yrs now). Born and raised
in the Delaware County, but
I spent a lot of time at both of my grandparents in South Philly.
> What's the name of your Blog and what is it about?
RegularGeek.com is a technical blog. Sometimes I go totally geeky and
explain a site's API,
other times there are some career-oriented posts. The middle seems to
be hovering around
social media mostly.
> Do you own a company?
Not yet ;)
> How do you use Social Media?
Well, Mixx has the community and social news. StumbleUpon is good for
general recommendations
or even just trolling around looking for something interesting.
Twitter is a good way to find people and
send a quick note. FriendFeed is my addiction though. Tons of
information and fantastic conversation.
I don't like "using" social media as much as being a part of it.
> Where do you think Social media is going?
Niche social media is slowly going to take over, but it will take a
while. FriendFeed has changed my
perspective a bit though. I am not sure if it would really catch on in
the mainstream, but the
amount of information and conversation is amazing. I do not think we
will see much from sites
like Digg, mixx, reddit, etc. There is only so much room for non-niche
sites, and Yahoo Buzz
has too many possible users for a general site to go huge.
> Are you an Eagles Fan?
No, I am not a fan. Diehard, devotee, nutjob, psycho and other related
labels fit better :)
