Why IS Video Getting So Popular?
August 28, 2008 - 8:04pm — SolacetechGoogle finds A New Way To Search For Video
August 1, 2008 - 4:13pm — SolacetechYouTube launches voice-to-text to enhance its video search - TECH.BLORGE.com
YouTube has introduced its voice-to-text technology to enhance the search function, and to provide rich metadata for select videos. The technology makes the video headlines less important for searching now that any searched keyword can be found by searching the entire audio file instead.
With all of the new "Search engines" popping up, It's good to see Google/Youtube stepping it up in the "wow" division. At first I thought it meant I would have to speak to search, that would have been an extra step. What it means though is that now when I search for a certain video, like maybe a linux how-to, if the word I'm searching for is stated in the video,it comes up in the search...Cool!

I do need a camera. I've been using my wife's 8.3 Megapixel Fuji for my projects and even though the quality is good, It doesn't come with a light and the video format is AVI, how old is that? The Samsung Camcorder however has a "Web/Mobile" mode that converts the video on the fly to .mpg4... I better rehearse my excuse to buy this...

Six Ways To Properly (Or Accidently) Use Copyrighted Video
July 8, 2008 - 3:09am — SolacetechThis document is a code of best practices that helps creators, online providers, copyright holders, and others interested in the making of online video interpret the copyright doctrine of fair use. Fair use is the right to use copyrighted material without permission or payment under some circumstances.
I like the principles but will the big wigs accept it? It does explain why some shirts are blurred in music videos. They did not receive permission to advertise the logos and it was not a spur of the moment video shoot. Anything accidentally shown can be put under fair use. The BIG point is that copyrighted material should be ok when it is for a "Discussion" or instruction. Hmmm, going by this should get You Tube off the hook with Viacom. Right?
