The Legacy of Otis Redding

"A tribute to the life and music of one of soul’s greatest singer/songwriters, Otis Redding, told through vintage performances and rare interviews with family members and close colleagues. During Redding’s five years (1963-1967) with Stax Records, he placed a total of 21 singles on the R&B charts, with another 10 charting in the two-year period following his tragic death, December 10, 1967, in a plane crash. The documentary features rousing performances of classics, including "I Can’t Turn You Loose," "I've Been Loving You Too Long," "Shake," live with Booker T and the MG’s at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and live studio performances recorded the day before he died of "Try A Little Tenderness" and "Respect." Redding’s only #1 song, "(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay," plays against footage of San Francisco and the Sausalito docks where he composed the memorable tune on a houseboat. He never got the chance to perform the posthumous hit in concert."

Wisin & Yandel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Wisin & Yandel are considered one of the most successful artists in the reggaeton genre, due to their awards, nominations and sales of albums."

I have to give Omar credit for this. We were talking about Reggaeton and Bachata and MTV3. He's second Generation Puerto Rican. What's cool is that he speaks fluent spanish. Most second gen's born here speak more english than anything so he's kinda refreshing. Anyway, he spent some time showing me all the young artists from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. I was surprised, especially about the Group called Wisin & Yandel. With poetic lyrics, very polished videos and sold out american concerts, I can't believe I never heard of them. It's amazing how each Genre of music attract different fans. He made me laugh when he spoke of "Old School" and "New School" artists. I heard of Daddy Yankee and Tego but who's Arcangel and Aventura? I have a lot of catching up to do...

Lil Wayne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. (born September 27, 1982[1]), better known for his stage name Lil Wayne, is an American rapper. He met the Cash Money Records collective as a teenager and eventually recorded for the label. He was a member of the rap group, Hot Boys."

I avoided the BET Awards this year. Still mad at music. Tonight though, we landed on the re-broadcast and I was stunned! Lil Wayne was the closing act and the camera panned the audience during his performance. What amazed me was how every artist shown in the crowd was reciting Weezy's Lyrics word-for-word! That's Power to me. Not only is he repeated by every young man (EVERY) with earphones, he's your favorite rapper's favorite rapper....

And You Dont Stop | Get Info About the TV Series, Find Info on the TV Show Episode | VH1.com

"From its humble beginnings in the South Bronx to the global, cultural and economic powerhouse it has become, hip hop has reshaped the world. VH1 documents this cultural explosion in a five-part series."

Good music connects. If you want to feel a certain way, you play a certain type of music. Young ones usually feel the same way across the planet. That's why when we were young we related to two kinds of music: Rock and Hiphop. Thanks to MTV, we've crisscrossed our cultures and music to make the world a little closer, whether we what to admit it or not. Today rock groups rap and rap groups add electric guitars. This isn't new, but it is more frequent than before. I wonder what type of music there will be once my kids get to their teens...

Looking for the song you heard on the radio?

Don't you hate that? They just played a new song by so-and-so and you would love to here it again. Nowadays even commercials have songs cool enough to play again. I can't get enough of the Zune commercial with the neptunes' "Spaz" song.

"I'm right here and I ain't going nowhere! You can turn tables and you can throw chairs!"

So I went to www.streamzy.com to search for the song. Not only did I find the song, the website found the video too! Cool!

Here's the business side to the new search engine: http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/03/streamzy-a-fresh-face-for-seeqpods-...

Sunday evening my wife and in-laws went to a City sponsored Block Party in West Oak Lane( WWW.OARCPHILLY.ORG ). She bought home tons of pics and video. I just happen upon this picture here. The keyboardist is my cousin-law(?) and I'm kicking myself for missing his set. If I didn't have this sinus problem,I would've been there for him. Maybe even performed with Him! Not! I'm what you call a studio musician/songwriter. We'll discuss that later, anyway, It's such a great thing when we get to see the best of Philly in a drama free....Oh, wait the Mighty B is on! The kids and I love the theme song!

Why i stopped the music

Why i stopped the music, originally uploaded by Solacetech.

As i think back, many things have been left "unresolved". Of course i understand the reasons for my actions but maybe it's not that easily discernable from the outside. Last year the third of like 6 websites I made was music based. Not the typical topics but the business of music and music production. I was really excited about this because no one covered the angle I had. As the posts and convos with artists and dj's continued, i lost the love for music. Why would a rapper say yes to promotion but no to a blog? Don't know what that is? Fine, say that then so i can show you. The last straw was after all The work I put into the site, it managed to lock me out somehow. It gave me a reason but by then i was already fed up. I LET IT GO. Then, what blew my mind was a statement from a dj "so how long before you get bored with this one too?" he was talking about my site here. What he said tells me people really don't understand the constant up hill battle content providers have. "BORED"...
