Eagles Keep Their One Tall Receiver
Eagles' Baskett can go up and get it | Philadelphia Daily News | 08/01/2008
Baskett is "a" big receiver.
He is not "the" big receiver.
But that doesn't mean Baskett can't be more of a factor in the Eagles' offense than he was last year, when it seemed the Birds thought his sole value was blocking, as a sort of H-back or quasi-tight end. (Starting tight end L.J. Smith was hurt most of the year, and the team wasn't all that thrilled with fullback Thomas Tapeh, who was allowed to leave in free agency.)
Does that sound like positive thinking to you? Hank Baskett has been pretty consistent during the years here and I do look forward to seeing him get more minutes on the field. They say the wide receiver position is one of the hardest to learn. I'm pretty comfortable seeing used as a "big play" or "Go get it!" catcher. For some reason the Eagles are in love with short WR's so to see Baskett not traded yet is a good sign....What do you think?
