The internet is a whole lot of nothing without a search engine or two. While the staying power of search engines has never been in question, it's been interesting to see how they've evolved to the point of replacing the address bar.

just posted a great article about the cool 3D search engines itching to take over the world of search. Personally I work on a lot of computers and networks that can barely play youtube smoothly. My question is: although the eye-candy is great, have they tried to use the best compression to make a pleasing visual and user experience?

The search engine that caught my eye was "search me", so using IE6 on my Asus EEE, I decided to test the site performance wise. My mobile laptop is only clocked around 700mhz with a gig of RAM, which is almost below average from what I see in the field.

The site itself found my topic pretty quickly and gave me the Itunes-ish thumbnail/cover art spin. It wasn't lightning quick but smooth enough. The bottom pop-up is a nice touch too, showing detailed info about each site.

Overall, the ONE next gen search engine I tried seems to be ready for primetime even though it's tagged "BETA". Thanx Corvida for showing us the future of search...
