Web 2.0 Sites Taking Names?

Wait that title wasn't fair. We are all just trying to install and use new software and enrich our lives with many tools right? WRONG! We are trying to find the app that can STOMP our currently favorite software/programs/websites...
Did you get that? When did that transition happen? Why now do I prefer not using my email program or desktop rss reader or even All of the music I bought(yes I paid for it) off of Itunes? Why would I just sit on www.gmail.com and use it to email, instant message and twitter? What allows me to read any and everything from google reader, www.friendfeed.com or www.feedly.com instead of using my thunderbird or something else? Is streaming music from www.pandora.com a sellout? I had a DJ give me the evil eye before when I mentioned Itunes so what would he do to me now? Lastly, what about poor MSFT and their old money train called Office? Hmm, there are so many better, quicker options online. I even use Google docs more than I use Open Office.
I guess one big reason is because of www.google.com. They are truly trying to put everything online. Some call that cloud computing and it's the main reason why PC's and laptops are getting cheaper. If everything you do is online do you really need the 250GB hard drive and the obscene amount of RAM to work? C'mon people... My wife is reading a magazine as we speak. She's so 1.0....
