Mahalo.com: Human-Powered Search

I must admit, watching Jason Calacanis spin out new web ideas has been a good pastime for me. Lately he has been on a tear with new ways to make researching fun. His human search site Mahalo.com is very inviting to the eyes and I thought it would be great as a tool for the new generation on the web.

He previously added a way (via twitter) for others to ask questions AND he paid those who gave the answers, that’s cool. Now he’s changed his front page(named it Mahalo 3.0) and asked us how it looks. Actually he asked a lot of questions regarding this:

1. What do you think of our strategy for Mahalo?
I just like the fact that Mahalo is flexible enough to make changes. Look at how slow Yahoo and Microsoft are…

2. What do you think of the design?
The design is leaning towards the flashy “webzine” look everyone is aiming for, I like it.

3. What would you change in my model?
Sorry not qualified to answer that but making it a place where young writers can cut their teeth is a great idea.

4. What challenges do you think lie ahead for us?
There’s always something new coming around the corner(twitter caught everyone by surprise), the challenge will be how you integrate it into your system…

5. Do you think we can build one of the top 10 sites in the United
States with this model (i.e. as big as Wikipedia, and bigger than
About.com and Yahoo Answers).

Yes, but I’m an optimist :)

If you have any further advise leave it here…
