I came across a couple of posts putting Naymz.com in a bad light. So being the bluff caller I am, I asked on friendfeed about this company and the co-founder immediately responded.
Hi Anthony,
Yes, the blogoshere can by fickle at times. However, it’s been our number one resource in terms of constructive feedback and we continually use it to learn from our mistakes and improve our platform.
I appreciate you giving us an opportunity to share our vision and goals. Based on the nature of your posts, I’m assuming you may have run across some blog posts that may not paint Naymz in a favorable light. If there are any you would like for me to address specifically, let me know.
As a newer social network, we don’t quite have the name recognition of say a Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Many people are also starting to get social network fatigue, as it’s seems a new network is popping up every day. It’s sometimes an uphill battle to convince people that Naymz is a valuable addition to one’s social network portfolio and offers distinguished benefits not available elsewhere.
We are a small, self-funded team of three guys attempting to provide a unique and useful product and service to professionals. The good news is we are closing in on 1.5 million active members, growing quickly, and have several exciting products in the pipeline that should increase our value to our members and make us more unique in the world of social networking.
Naymz is attempting to take a different angle on Professional Social Networking by adding layers of identity verification, social reputation, and online promotion tools.
The transparency, and lack-there-of, of the social web is growing in importance. More and more people are turning to Google and social networks to do background checks on others.
I can create a profile on LinkedIn (or Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.) and claim whatever I want about myself. I can say I have a PHD in molecular engineering from MIT, am the love child of Stephen Hawking, and kicked the winning field goal for the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Believe it or not, none of this is true.
What we are trying to do at Naymz is create a layer of trust and validation to one’s online professional persona. We do this primarily through social authentication by those who know you in the real world. The more contacts you have who are willing to vouch for your reputation (through a short questionnaire and written endorsements), the better your online reputation becomes. We use a Reputation Scoring mechanism call RepScore
We also have a partnership with Trufina, who will verify our member’s identities and conduct background checks (currently US only). Member’s who go through the Trufina verification process have “verified identity” badges on their public Naymz profile.
If you have built a good reputation, why not promote it? Naymz was built from the ground up with Search Engine Placement for members in mind. Naymz profiles typically rank very well for “natural search” in Google and other leading search engines for members names and talents. As part of our Premium Membership service, Naymz will acquire a paid search engine placement for member’s names to guarantee first page placement.
Naymz also released a micro-blogging platform earlier this year called “Exchange” which allows members to let their network know what they are working on or discuss items like job opportunities, events, ideas, news, and other career related topics in short, digestible bites.
Here is an overview of some of the specific features that makes us unique from other leading Professional Social Networks…
In terms of what’s next for Naymz, here are some of the products we are hoping to release before the end of the year:
Contact Management Improvements
As the networks of our members grow, we want to provide additional contact management utilities to make it easier to find, organize, and communicate with contacts.
Additional Customization of Public Profiles
When you create a profile on most popular social networks, you typically have little control over the appearance or content of your public page. We feel that our member’s profiles are theirs, and it should reflect their personal brand and personality. We plan to give additional design and content flexibility to our member profiles.
Better Integration with Other Social Networks
Most avid social networkers have multiple accounts on various platforms. We are working on tools to open up and play nicer with other networks through data portability.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any specific additional questions about Naymz from a value or product standpoint.
