This will anger many, most of the angry will be my friends and fellow PC fixer-uppers. For the third time someone said I should start a business fixing computers and reselling them. I however was taught to watch and learn from others.
Now maybe this was a good idea maybe 8 years ago when I was younger and Windows XP was still an ackward operating system no one wanted.During those times households still had windows 98 and businesses used at least windows 2000. These two OS’s could run on anything with no problem and that was great for people selling used computers.
XP changed the game.It dropped DOS, forced faster RAM and bigger hard drives. Rarely do I walk into a flea market and see an old PC with XP on it. 98 sure and even sometimes Millenium Edtion but rarely XP. Have you noticed how slow but quick the brand new netbooks are today? Most of them are under or around 1ghz, that’s not really fast but it is enough to do things online and record live video.
I remember the day I stopped buying used laptops. My buddy who fixes and resells for a living offered me a 750mhz laptop for 400.00. I buoght it and paid in installments. By the time i paid for it fully though, I had to twist the screen to get a visual and the internal data port that never worked bugged my wallet to no end.
Today though I can buy two brand new netbooks from Bestbuy for that price. I overheard one client telling another about a 500$ laptop with poor details(the deets were incredible to them though). I spoke up and mentioned that you can get the same thing for 200. The look they gave me made me think I cursed without knowing. 200, are you serious?
Another person I know continues to buy used PC’s and expects me to make them work. Sometimes the mother board is old and sometimes it’s without a hard drive. They still insist these machines are ok because the bios throws info up on the screen. People, please do PC Techs a favor and buy brand new PC’s, we can fix them…
