Su.pr – Drive More Traffic with Your Short URLs!.

Publishers who otherwise wouldn’t care will start to use Bit.ly to increase exposure in the ecosystem.

I’d have to disagree with the above Techcrunch statement. The writer forgot to mention the one url shortener that already has a huge extended fanbase: su.pr. As I mentioned on Friendfeed many times, shortening defeats the purpose of SEO, Google can’t see the title and keywords behind http://ff.im/4tHzv can it?

So asking the question why leads me to one 140 character microblogging service: Twitter. Since everyone is trying so hard to ride this ruby on rails web application, it looks like caution is being thrown into the wind. I’m even sure if someone was tracking it, malicious PC attacks have risen because bad websites are hiding behind the clicked on Twitter shortened urls too.

But back to our main topic, why su.pr will stomp and win over bit.ly and all the other shortners. With Digg and others you still have to promote the link. Yes, submitting here and there will still be a part of your daily routine to gain exposure, the only difference now is that you’ll also get on the spot stat tracking. With Su.pr however, you are also dipped into the 7,873,809 pool of stumblers just waiting to read something geeky or sporty or gossipy. Do you get it? The potential of Seven million hits compared to the picky and fanatical hits from Digg.
