Forget the tech blogs, said investor Roger McNamee.

Hey I have an idea, every new online start up should promote themselves by NOT telling start up blogs and websites itching to promo start-ups. Yeah that’s a great idea…

What’s scarier is having someone like Techcrunch’s Mike Arrington point out your error in thinking. The internet has recreated Ben Franklin and later Abraham Lincoln’s time when local small papers had enough readership and pull because they were the only papers delivering the goods.

Who else today gives an in-depth profile of a start up with quotes from the people who created them? Techcrunch rarely get’s second hand info unless it’s about Apple(honestly, who get’s firsthand info from Apple?).

In this case Wordnik messed up by insulting Techcrunch and it’s hard work. Now their dirty laundry(traffic stats) is hanging out there for all to see…

What benefit do you see not promoting yourself with blogs?
